Using the metro, you are in less than 10 minutes at the train station and bus station, at the hospital Pontchaillou, at the National School of Public Health, at the University of Haute Bretagne Villejean...
To park, here are some indications and suggestions.
In the city centre, free parking is overnight from 7pm to 9am, and between 12pm and 2pm. Parking is also free on Sundays and public holidays. There are payable places around the Place de Commeurec, as well as payable secure parking spots. Halles Centrales, Charles de Gaulle, and Kleber car parks are the closest.
Rates are as follows: the 1st hour = €1.71, next 30 minutes = €1.09. Maximum permissible period of 1hr 33mins.
Rue Vasselot is located just behind Republic station, on the south bank of the Vilaine.
You are in the town centre, a few minutes away from the Place de la Mairie and Opera, TNB (Théâtre National de Bretagne), the Tourist Office, the Parliament of Brittany, Les Champs Libres library, L'Espace des Sciences, Le marché (market) des Lices...
If you want to get around by bicycle in Rennes, it is possible to borrow a bike: "LE Vélo STAR".
LE Vélo STAR is an access system to bikes in the town of Rennes, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 83 stations and 900 bicycles are available, mostly close to metro stations, bus stops and the train station.
Each time you borrow a bike, the first 30 minutes are free, then:
- From 30 min to 1h = €1
- From 1h to 2h = €2
- From 2h to 3h = €3
- From 3h to 6h = €10
If you arrive from Rennes St Jacques airport, you are 10km from the city centre, and it takes about half an hour by rental car or taxi, depending on traffic.
If you arrive at the main station by bus or train, by TGV for example, you can take the metro, taxi, bus or even walk. Whatever you decide, it takes about 10 minutes to arrive at the apartment on rue Vasselot.
If you choose the metro, there is only one metro line in Rennes – it is the smallest city in the world to have one! Take the metro stop "Gare", in the direction of "JF Kennedy", for 2 stops to get off at "Republic".
From opening to closing, the subway runs every 2-4 minutes without exception: from 5:15am to 0:45am (arrival at the terminal) every day of the year from Monday to Saturday (except May 1st) and from 7:30am on Sundays and public holidays. The price of a metro ticket (or bus) is €1.50.
The ticket is valid for 1 hour, and for all STAR network public transport (not including the bicycles) in Rennes.
